EDI Student Ambassadors

The UCD School of Medicine Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee is actively seeking Student Ambassadors to join our team!

Student Ambassadors for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) play a crucial role in promoting knowledge, understanding and best practices related to EDI at their university. They work closely with the School of Medicine EDI Committee and Sub-Committees.

By serving as EDI Ambassadors, students have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on their campus community, develop valuable leadership skills, and advocate for greater inclusion and representation of underrepresented groups in higher education.

Term: 1-2 years, with possibility for extension.

Time Commitment: Student Ambassadors are expected to give approximately 2-3 days of their time per trimester. This will include time to attend committee meetings, events and do some outreach. Busier times, such as exam times, will be protected. This is not a binding role or time commitment.

You need to be currently studying in the UCD School of Medicine to partake in this. All undergraduate and postgraduate year groups are welcome.

We strongly invite individuals to apply from all backgrounds including different race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability and age. We encourage applicants from underrepresented and marginalised groups to apply, as we are actively working to increase representation and inclusion.

Ongoing support and training will be provided.

This is the first time we are launching the role of the EDI Student Ambassador in the School of Medicine and thus the role is evolving. Key tasks we envisage include:

  • Promote knowledge and understanding of EDI in our School, particularly acting as a bridge between staff and student experiences.
  • Help implement EDI best practices and policies in our School.
  • Join one of our sub-committees as a student representative. Student Ambassadors should choose their area of interest - Gender Equality; Inclusion; Research & Education; Career Progression; Organisation, Culture & Communications. All students will sit on the Student Engagement Sub-Committee.
  • Attend varying EDI events in the School of Medicine - help with advertising, planning, set-up etc.
  • Take part in initiatives of interest as they develop.
  • Show a strong interest and commitment to advancing EDI in our School.
