Congratulations to Dr Rachel MacCann on the latest publication from UCD CEPHR, Pharmabiotic and the All Ireland Infectious Diseases (AIID) cohort on links between gut bacteria, inflammation and COVID-19.
Over 4,000 people in Ireland contributed to the AIID cohort, a collaboration led by UCD CEPHR between UCD, UCD School of Medicine, UCC, RCSI and Rush University.
These novel findings provide more insights into why some people may end up with more severe COVID-19 than others and suggests a role for our gut bacteria in how we respond to infections.
The team mapped people’s inflammatory responses to their gut microbiome profiles in people with COVID-19 and identified specific gut bacteria that linked (in red) to markers associated with more severe COVID-19 disease.
Congratulations to all involved. You can read the paper here.
