Congratulations to UCD Medicine alumnus Dr Matthew Ho for being selected to receive the 2023 ‘’Research Achievement Award’’ for the Internal Medicine Residency Training program of the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Education. Only two of the 52 members of the graduating internal medicine class each year are honoured with this award. It is based on scholarly activity, clinical competency, professionalism, and contributions to the residency program.
In addition to this prestigious award, Dr Ho also received the 2023 ‘’Outstanding Educator Achievement Award’’. The intern class selects the successful person (from a total of 52 members of the graduating class) based on excellent teaching skills in inpatient, outpatient and conference settings.
Dr Ho has carved out an incredibly successful path since graduating from UCD in 2020, building on his already impressive research portfolio since he joined the program at Mayo Clinic. He has worked on an additional 19 publications during residency – he is first author on 10 of these publications. His work has been funded by the Hematology Division Small Grants Program.
During his residency, Dr Ho also volunteered time to develop clinical skills teaching medical students rotating through internal medicine. His teaching has led to lasting changes in the Internal Medicine rotation.
Dr Ho will begin a fellowship in the department of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.
We wish Dr Ho all the very best and continued success.
