UCD School of Medicine was delighted to host our RUMC White Coat and Farewell Ceremony on 4 December 2024.
Hosted by Professor Patrick Felle, Associate Dean, International and attended by Professor Colin Scott, UCD Registrar, the ceremony marks the end of our RUMC students' pre-clinical training in Dublin and the beginning of the clinical portion of their programme in Penang, Malaysia.
Professor Karen Morgan, President of RUMC and Dato Prof Rashid, Dean provided a short video message for the students. Prof Felle invited the students to put on their White Coats and Dr Melinda Halasz led the students in reciting the Physician’s Pledge. The students were then presented with their certificates by Prof Felle.
The ceremony was concluded with the RUMC Student Presentation by the Malaysian Society members (Lim Jie Wei , Kavessh Vandaiyar and Lyssha Tan). This presentation included awards to their ‘Favourite Teachers’ – Dr Melinda Halasz and Dr Koon Meng Chan and Prof James Jones (in absentia).
RUMC was established in 1996 as Penang Medical College, the RCSI-UCD Malaysia Campus is a foreign branch campus of both University College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. To date RUMC has graduated over 2,100 doctors who are practising in countries around the world, including Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Ireland, UK, Malta, Australia, New Zealand, and USA.
