The UCD Irish Critical Care Clinical Trials Network (ICC-CTN) hosts a workshop for the Federation of Platform Trials, in collaboration with InFact and ISARIC

The UCD Irish Critical Care Clinical Trials Network (ICC-CTN) is based in the UCD Clinical Research Centre at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. Recently, they hosted a 2-day workshop for the Federation of Platform Trials, in collaboration with InFact and ISARIC. The ICC-CTN’s vision is to create a world where patient outcomes are continuously improved through global research collaboration within a learning health system.

The workshop took place in the Museum of Literature Ireland, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin City Centre, and saw researchers from the fields of critical care, mental health, infectious diseases, emergency response, and beyond, gather from across five continents of the world. They discussed the future of platform clinical trials.

The ICC-CTN’s mission is to build a collaborative, equitable and efficient global research ecosystem based on maximising innovation amongst federated, platform and other clinical trials in acute care and health emergencies. This mission originated from the COVID-19 pandemic and recognition from several networks and research bodies that there is a need for more effective research processes and methods.

The 2-day event also included a WHO Global O2ptimization of respiratory support collaboration meeting, an InFact meeting and a Platform trials meeting which saw a diverse range of platform trials present, namely PANTHER, PRACTICAL and REMAP-CAP.

About the ICC-CTN

The HRB funded Irish Critical Care-Clinical Trials Network (ICC-CTN) was established in 2015 to support research being conducted by the Irish Critical Care-Clinical Trials Group (ICC-CTG). The CTN aims to support efforts to conduct high quality clinical trials on the Island of Ireland, based on the opportunity, the science, the feasibility and the ability to enhance the standing of our network locally and internationally. Our approach is to energetically grow the network accessibility, size, geographical coverage and scope, to grow the portfolio of CTN supported studies (investigator initiated and industry studies), to develop a reputation for high quality work and establish a sustainable CTN for long term success.

We have an open and inclusive approach to requests for collaboration and assistance. In the CTN we aim to build collaborations for local and national investigator led studies and to develop industry collaborations into our portfolio.
