The UCD surgical skills' team have won the National Surgical Skills Competition for the second year running.
The competition is open to students in their clinical years from all Irish Medical universities. Six universities took part this year - University College Dublin, RCSI, University College Cork, University of Limerick, Trinity College Dublin, and Queen's University Belfast. Each university holds internal heats and then chooses a team of seven medical students to represent them at the national competition.
Students must complete a suturing exercise and then a series of laparoscopic challenges.
Winning team member and Vice President of the UCD Surgical Society Conor Kennedy stated, ''We are absolutely delighted to have won the competition for the second year running. We have placed a special emphasis on surgical skills in the last several years and are very proud of what we have been able to achieve.''
