Ad Astra Fellow - Assistant Professor of Antibacterial Resistance, UCD School of Medicine

Research (and associated teaching) in the area of antibiotic resistance is a strategic priority of the UCD Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and will build on a recent Ad Astra fellowship in S. Aureus pathobiology and current recruitment for an Assistant professorship in clinical microbiology (shortlisting in process). The Ad Astra fellowship will address areas including, but not limited to, fundamental mechanisms underpinning antibiotic and resistance to other antimicrobials and the development of new pharmacologic approaches to the treatment of infectious diseases which leverage endogenous antimicrobial agents including lipids and peptides. This appointment will broaden and strengthen existing research in this area of high strategic importance.

The application of artificial intelligence in clinical medicine and biomedical research and practice is a key strategic priority of the UCD School of Medicine. In this post, the successful applicant will be involved in state-of-the-art research and teaching in the application of AI to medicine and medical research. This will cover areas including, but not limited to, the role of AI in diagnostics, data analysis and clinical intervention decisions. We fully anticipate that this fellow will provide a nidus for expansion of critical mass in AI research across multiple disciplines in the School of Medicine.

This fellowship will focus on: Innovative trial design for One Health; Operationalising cross-sectoral clinical trials; Building research partnerships within the university, nationally and internationally and; Capacity building, advocacy and education.
Expected Deliverables (aligned with WHO collaborating centre terms of reference)
Training Modules and micro credential development.
Develop workshops and online courses on One Health clinical trial design for researchers, and policymakers in Ireland and internationally.
Guidance and Protocols:
Conduct a systematic review of best practices and methodologies in One Health trials.
Create evidence-based guidelines for designing and implementing cross-sectoral clinical trials. Knowledge Repository Contributions:
Populate the WHO CC repository with trial protocols, case studies, and tools of relevance to be shared and disseminated widely.
