Neuroscience is a broad field of enquiry which focuses on central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems. These are represented in some focused projects undertaken by Professor James Jones.
Sacral Neuromodulation For Faecal Incontinence
In collaboration with Prof Ronan O’Connell, Professor of Surgery, UCD we are attempting to explore the neurophysiological basis for sacral nerve stimulation applied to incontinence.
Charcot Marie Tooth Disease
In collaboration with Dr Mark Pickering, Lecturer/Assistant Professor we are utilising a mouse model of this hereditary neuropathy and in particular examining how peripheral nerves accommodate stretch
Vagal Control Of The Heart
In collaboration with Sue Pyner from University of Durham this project examines how atrial volume receptors transduce signals relating to mechanical stretch.
Artificial Muscles
In collaboration with Donal Holland and Eoin O’Cearbhaill from the School of Mechanical Engineering we are inventing various artificial but anatomically accurate limb muscles.
