The seventeenth-century Franciscans were assisted in their project by the generosity of noble patrons at home and abroad such as Fearghal Ó Gadhra and Captain Somhairle Mac Domhnaill, who valued the importance of their task and appreciated that their own names would be recorded in history as munificent benefactors.
The next phase of this iconic twenty-first century project needs visionary patrons and committed investors – people who are willing to get involved in the preservation and dissemination of Irish culture, people whose own names will be inscribed in an historic roll of honour, like their far-sighted predecessors four centuries ago.
We invite you to support the work of the Institute. The Irish Franciscan archive is a priceless and unique collection which is strongly connected with the history and identity of the Irish at home and abroad. It contains some of the most important manuscripts, documents and early printed books in Ireland's cultural heritage. As a Friend of the collection, you can share in our research and conservation projects by funding research scholarships or large research and conservation projects. And in doing so, you will be added to the historical list of donors to the Franciscan heritage since Fearghal Ó Gadhra financed the Annals of the Four Masters in the early seventeenth century.
