The Wadding papers (the UCD-OFM D manuscripts) are an internationally significant archive associated with Luke Wadding and St Isidore’s College Rome. The first five volumes of Luke Wadding’s Papers, UCD-OFM, MSS. D.01, have been catalogued and digitally preserved. Amounting to 1,080 pages, these volumes were disbound, cleaned and strengthened by professional conservators Susan Corr and Benjamin van de Wetering (Ox Bindery, Sligo) and databased by Dr Benjamin Hazard. The collection includes manuscript correspondence, contemporary transcripts and printed matter. This reflects the wide variety of activity undertaken at St. Isidore’s College – from theological scholarship to diplomacy and high international politics, from Franciscan relations with other religious orders to concerns about patronage and the day-to-day running of the college.
This project was developed in collaboration with UCD Archives, the Irish Virtual Research Library and Archive Project (IVRLA) and the Heritage Council. Wadding papers from the UCD-OFM collection can be viewed on EUROPEANA ((opens in a new window)www.europeana.eu) and on the (opens in a new window)UCD Digital Library.
