John McGrath

John McGrath is a Lecturer in Music at University of Surrey. He completed his AHRC-funded PhD in Music at University of Liverpool and has published a monograph with Routledge entitled Samuel Beckett, Repetition and Modern Music. John’s writing has received positive reviews in Music & Letters, Wire Magazine, Psychology of Music, and the Irish Studies Review. Other recent publications investigate the transmedial work of Laurie Anderson and David Lynch.
McGrath is also an active guitarist. His two solo records of original compositions have been featured on various international radio stations, compilations and blogs including the Wire Tapper, RTE 1, BBC and Radio New Zealand. Recent
performances include a concert at King's Place, London.
John is a member of the International Guitar Research Centre (IGRC) and is currently working on a co-edited collection, 21st Century Guitar, for Bloomsbury. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a consultant for guitar pedagogy on Learn to Play: Computational Assessment of Musical Playability for Users' Practice (AHRC).
