The UCD School of Music is delighted to welcome two new Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellows, Dr Francesco Milella and Dr Chrysi Kyratsou, both of whom joined us this September.
(opens in a new window)Dr Francesco Milella will be working on a project on the impact of the Atlantic circulation of Italian opera in the crisis of the Spanish empire between 1770 and 1820. Dr Milella joins us from the University of Cambridge, where he recently completed a PhD on the arrival of Italian opera in early national Mexico, under the supervision of Professor Benjamin Walton. His project will be mentored by Dr Tomás McAuley, together with Associate Professor Ivar McGrath from the School of History.
(opens in a new window)Dr (opens in a new window)Chrysi Kyratsou will be working on a project on the role of music among asylum seekers sheltering in reception centres in Greece. Her project arises from her PhD in Anthropology, which was recently completed at Queen’s University Belfast, under the supervision of Dr Ioannis Tsioulakis and Dr Fiona Murphy. Her project will be mentored by Associate Professor Jaime Jones.
Head of School, Dr Tomás McAuley, says “as a small school, we are delighted to be welcoming two postdoctoral fellows in a single year, but all the more so to be welcoming two scholars of such exceptional promise, and working on two such different but equally important topics. As a research-driven school, supporting the work of talented early-career researchers is a central part of our mission. We look forward greatly to having both fellows contribute to our lively research culture and to seeing their work develop during their time at UCD.”
