Conference: Newman as Preacher, Oxford, 16-18 September 2024
A message from Chris Cimorelli, Director of the National Institute for Newman Studies:
Dear Friend of NINS,
We are excited to inform you of our upcoming fall conference, "Newman as Preacher," which will be held in Oxford, England from 16-18 September in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of St. John Henry Newman's preaching ministry. Below, you will find additional conference information and the RSVP link. We are asking foryour response by August 12th, especially given the limited supply of rooms for conference participants, rooms that we can offer gratis on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Additional Conference Information
The event will feature three keynote speakers, a NINS informational session, and spiritually edifying and nourishing programming. Thanks to the generosity of our colleagues and partners for this event, the lectures will be held at three locations at which Newman preached extensively: the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford; St Mary and St Nicholas Church, Littlemore; and St Clement's Church, Oxford. We will provide more details below. Please view the attached, tentative itinerary, as well, and be sure to visit our conference page.
Unlike our recent fall conferences, this event will be held on-site and without live-streaming of the lectures. However, we will make recordings of the lectures available post-conference through our website (newmanstudies.org) and newsletter; you can sign up for the newsletter on our homepage, after scrolling toward the bottom of that page.
NINS has reserved a limited number of en suite rooms at St Edmund Hall for this event. For prospective conference attendees who can arrange their own travel to Oxford, we can offer these rooms gratis on a first-come, first-serve basis. All other conference costs (e.g., registration, conference meals (including the banquet), and programming) will be subsidized by NINS. Of course, some of you live in close proximity to Oxford and might wish to commute daily, and the keynote lectures will be open to the public; see the conference page for information about these lectures and links to the churches themselves.
*Please RSVP by 12 August 2024 using the following link:
We hope that you can join us for this event, and especially for the public lectures. I am happy to address any questions that you might have. Thank you for your time in this matter, and the very best wishes to you.
