Rugby fever at UCD
UCD law lecturer Paul Ward will be in Paris on 21 September to support Ireland in their Rugby World Cup match against France. Paul won two tickets when he opened his new UCD affinity card with AIB in June.
He was presented with his tickets at Belfield Bowl by Tony Walsh of AIB Credit Cards, and Louise Kelly, Assistant Manager of the AIB campus branch.
Accepting the tickets, Paul said, “I’m absolutely delighted about the trip. It promises to be one of the most exciting games of the tournament and I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Brian O’Driscoll and the other UCD players in action.”

Aine Gibbons, Vice-President for Alumni and Development spoke about the importance of the card, “Taking out a UCD affinity card is a great way of giving something back to the university. The revenue from the card goes towards New Era and the Ad Astra Programme as well as the vital Sports Development fund, which attracts great sporting talent to the university”
Belfield Bowl is also the venue for a key pre-season rugby match on Saturday 15 September between Leinster Rugby and Italian team Padova.
In the match, which kicks off at 1pm, Leinster will be keen to finish their successful pre-season campaign on a high when they face the Italian side. Following encouraging performances away to Biarritz and Bath, the squad have been training hard ahead of the big Magner’s League kick off on Saturday, September 22nd in the RDS against Edinburgh – the first of what will be four clashes against the Scottish side this season.

Leinster should be able to call upon the services of the likes of Ireland internationals Keith Gleeson, Jamie Heaslip, Luke Fitzgerald, Bernard Jackman and UCD’s own Rob Kearney. UCD squad members Kevin McLaughlin, Ross McCarron and Sean O’Brien have all featured prominently in Leinster’s pre-season campaign to date.
A limited number of adult tickets are available from the Leinster Rugby Store Donnybrook, and also from the Ticketmaster outlet in the Student Centre. Tickets will also be available from a Box Office located in the O’Reilly Hall Car Park from 11am on Saturday or online at the Leinster Rugby site.
