UCD awards 130 entrance scholarships and welcomes 535 high achievers for 2007
UCD has awarded a total of 130 entrance scholarships to the students in each degree programme area across the university who achieved the highest points in their Leaving Certificate.
Including the entrance scholars, 535 first years entered the ranks of the UCD High Achievers in 2007. Their achievement will be recorded on their degree transcript when they graduate. High achievers are students who score over 540 points in their Leaving Certificate.
High achievers come to UCD from schools throughout Ireland. With in excess of 220 high achievers coming from some 40 schools across Dublin city and county, Dublin sends the highest number of high achievers to UCD. However, counties Cork, Galway, Limerick, Wexford, Wicklow and Kildare also send significant numbers of high achievers to UCD. While around 8% of all Leaving Certificate students score 540 points or more, UCD attracts twice the national average.
“It is most encouraging to see the number of high achieving students entering omnibus programmes such as the BA, BComm, BEng and BSc and to see them pursue their different academic interests across the entire university,” said Dr Philip Nolan, Deputy President, Registrar, and Vice-President for Academic Affairs at UCD
