Accesscience '09
Can we fight bugs with SuperGlue®? What can sugars teach us about cystic fibrosis? Can computers build our vocal fingerprint? These are some of the questions that seven graduate student finalists will answer during AccesScience ’09 on March 26th at 1pm in the O’Reilly Hall.
UCD Conway Institute’s AccesScience competition sets the challenge for graduate students to explain their scientific research to a non-scientific audience. This year, participation in the competition had extended beyond Conway affiliated graduates to include all those in the College of Life Sciences and in the College of Engineering, Mathematics & Physical Sciences.
AccesScience ’09 will showcase the expanse of novel research being carried out within the science and technology arena in UCD to an audience of secondary school pupils (15-17 years old) primarily – the young scientists of the future.
Mr Pat Kenny, RTE will host the afternoon proceedings and the difficult task of judging the presentations by the finalists will be shouldered by Ms Siobhan O’Connor, 98fm broadcaster; Ms Cathy Davey, singer/songwriter; Mr Paddy Courtney, comedian and Mr Fionn Davenport, Lonely Planet travel writer.
