Through a Swedish Lens - images of early twentieth-century Irish life
Foreign ethnologists played a key role in the formation of the Irish Folklore Commission (1935). In its first year of operation, the Commission invited two leading Swedish scholars to conduct intensive ethnological surveys in Ireland, and to provide critical training in field work methods for Commission staff. Both these and other Swedish scholars have left a valuable pictorial record of their journeys.
