UCD Historian, Professor Diarmaid Ferriter, shortlisted for Irish Book of the Decade for Judging Dev
A combination of public votes and the judging of the Irish Literary Academy will decide the winner of the Irish Book of the Decade from a shortlist of 50 great books published since 2000.
Judging Dev, published by the Royal Irish Academy, is one of only two historical books shortlisted for the award. In Judging Dev, Diarmaid Ferriter re-examines the extraordinary career of the most significant politician of modern Irish history and his role in the history of the Irish state.
Using many previously unpublished key letters, documents and photographs, this beautifully-produced book from the Royal Irish Academy was a multiple category winner at the 2009 Irish Book Awards, winning The Argosy Irish Non-Fiction Book of the Year, The Best Irish-Published Book of the Year and The Tubridy Show Listeners' Choice Book of the Year.
Voting for the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards Book of the Decade is now open and ends on May 27th. To cast your vote, go to http://www.irishbookawards.ie/PublicVote.aspx
The Irish Book Awards covers the broad spectrum of Irish publishing from popular to literary. The shortlist judging panel was instructed to select books which had made a dramatic impact either through critical acclaim or popular success or a combination of both factors.
The Irish Literary Academy consists of around 100 individuals connected to the book business including authors, publishers, booksellers, journalists, academics, critics, and reviewers.
