UCD’s Ciara Everard sets new Irish U23 800m indoor record
Ciara Everard (UCD Athletic Club) set a new Irish U23 800m indoor record at the Irish University Indoor Track and Field Championships.
She crossed the finish line at 2:05.76 to beat the previous record time of 2:05.90 set by Sonia O’Sullivan in Boston 22 years ago (1991).
“I have been working hard to develop my endurance without losing touch with my speed,” said Everard, who is studying physiotherapy at UCD and is currently on a UCD Sports Scholarship for Athletics. “I went on a 4 week altitude training camp in South Africa in January which has contributed greatly to my current form.”
Everard will run in the National Championships in Belfast on 12 February 2012.
