New national indoor women’s 800m record for UCD’s Ciara Everard
Ciara Everard (UCD) has won the senior women’s 800m in the Athlone International Indoor Arena in a time of 2:02.54, setting a new Irish record, and qualifying for the European Indoor Championships (Gothenburg, Sweden).
“It feels so good to be back again,” said Ciara speaking to the Irish Examiner. “It was literally injury after injury after injury from April when I fell off my bike all the way to mid-November. It feels so good to be back running.”
Ciara, a UCD Ad Astra Elite Athlete Scholar, is in her fourth year of the BSc in Physiotherapy at the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Population Science.
Her winning time beats the previous national record of 2:02.87 set by Aisling Molloy over 20 years ago (1990) in Glasgow.
The Woodie’s DIY National Junior and U23 Indoor Championships took place on 09 Feb 2013.
