UCD students scoop three National Student Media Awards
With a record number of entries competing for National Student Media Awards, UCD’s University Observer made a strong impression on the judges this year taking home three awards.
One of the bigger prizes, the Newspaper of the Year sponsored by the Irish Times was collected by the Editor and the Deputy Editor of the University Observer, Kevin Beirne and Killian Woods.
Kevin Beirne also collected the award for Best Feature Writer for News and Politics sponsored by the Herald. Among his winning articles were an interview with Nobel prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist, Paul Krugman; an examination of addiction following the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman; and a feature on International Coming-Out Day.
Reporter, Elizabeth O’Malley of the University Observer took the award for Journalist of the Year sponsored by The Irish Examiner.
Now in its 14th year, the National Student Media Awards organised by Oxygen.ie showcase the best in student media across print, radio, film, television and design.
