"Welcome Days"
University College Dublin opened its gates to more than 3,600 new
first year
students as part of "Welcome Days." The event which
took place over three days was
held in O'Reilly
Hall, on the Belfield campus. The new students
were divided into three groups according to the faculties they
are entering.

UCD graduate, Dave Fanning acted as Master of Ceremonies. Each group
was addressed by a guest speaker from the world of business who themselves
are UCD graduates. The group on Wednesday was addressed by Gerald Fleming,
Meteorological Forcaster with Met Eireann; on Thursday by Stephen
Collins, Political Editor with the Sunday
Tribune and today, Monday 17 September by Vivienne

President of UCD, Dr Art Cosgrove and
President of the Students' Union, Aonghus
Hourihane spoke to the students, followed by the guest speaker.
The proceedings were followed by a reception in the conservatory of
O'Reilly Hall, where students had the
opportunity to meet their future
lecturers in an informal setting and were presented with a small UCD gift to
mark the start of their university career.
