Posted 10 July, 2024
In its (opens in a new window)latest rankings of European Universities, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has given top marks to University College Dublin, naming it number one in Ireland for Sustainability and Employment Outcomes.
UCD has seen its overall position in the European rankings sharply improve, rising 20 places since the inaugural rankings were released last year. This year, UCD is ranked 51 in Europe up from 71.
Employment Outcomes in the rankings are measured based on the ability of institutions to ensure a high level of employability for their graduates, while also nurturing future leaders who go on to make an impact in their respective fields.
For Sustainability, the evaluation is based on the social and environmental impact of universities as centres of education and research.
There are 12 indicators used for the QS European University Rankings, up from nine in the QS World University Rankings, namely: Academic Reputation, Citations per Paper, Employer Reputation, Employment Outcomes, Faculty Student Ratio, International Faculty, International Students, International Research Network, Inbound Exchange Students, Outbound Exchange Students, Papers per Faculty, and Sustainability.
For the 2025 ranking, the most improved indicators for UCD over the previous year were International Students, which rose by 101; Outbound Exchange Students, which increased 62 places; Sustainability and International Research Network, up 68 and 48 respectively; and Citations per Paper, which recorded an increase of 36.
Academic Reputation is the most heavily weighted individual metric at 30% in the QS European University Rankings, and in this indicator UCD moved up 2 places.
For its latest European University Rankings results, QS evaluated some 685 institutions across 42 locations in Europe.
