Former UCD Ad Astra athletics star Sarah Healy has broken the Irish indoor record for the 3000m for the second time in a week.

The UCD AC competitor lowered the national indoor record for the second time this season with a stunning performance at the Millrose Games in New York.

The Dubliner and two-time Olympian clocked a time of 8:30.79 to finish third in her race behind American duo Whittni Morgan (8:28.03) and Josette Andrews (8:29.77).

Healy showed fantastic strength in the last lap, moving past Olympic 1500m silver medallist Jessica Hull in the closing metres.

Just seven days ago the former UCD Ad Astra Elite Sports scholar ran 8:35.19 to break the Irish record she had set in France last year.

The UCD AC competitor is now the seventh fastest European woman in the 3000m distance.

Healy wasn’t the only UCD alum to smash an Irish indoor record at the annual competition.

Mark English (Finn Valley AC) took a chunk off his own Irish senior indoor 800m record – crossing the line in fourth in a time of 1:45.15, nearly one second faster than his previous indoor best set.

Healy and English were among thirty UCD student and alumni athletes selected as part of Team Ireland to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Nearly two dozen of these Olympians were past or current UCD Ad Astra Academy Elite Sports Scholars or recipients of UCD Sport scholarships.
