Dublin, Written in Our Hearts features work from 22 writers capturing the city in the first quarter of this century
A forthcoming anthology commissioned by Dublin City Council features work by (opens in a new window)Professor Anne Enright from the UCD School of English, Drama and Film, as well as UCD’s writer in residence from 2021, Niamh Campbell.
The collection also contains writing by UCD alumni Estelle Birdy, Kevin Curran, Roddy Doyle, Sarah Gilmartin and Karl Whitney.
Titled Dublin, Written in Our Hearts, the anthology was commissioned to mark 20 years of Dublin City Council’s One Dublin One Book initiative.
The collection is the One Dublin One Book choice for April 2025. For the last two decades, One Dublin One Book has encouraged everyone in the city to read the same book during April.
Published by The Stinging Fly Press, the anthology features fiction, poetry, essays and memoir pieces by 22 writers capturing Dublin in the first quarter of this century.
“The collection reflects the spirit of Dublin and its inhabitants in the first quarter of the 21st century,” said Mairead Owens, Dublin City Librarian, announcing the choice. “I know it will have broad appeal.”
The One Dublin One Book initiative encourages reading for pleasure, and invites readers to participate in various events organised across the city associated with the selected book. Details of the programme of events will be announced on 4th March.
“I moved to Dublin in 1995, so I’ll be 30 years living in the city this summer,” said Declan Meade, publisher and CEO at The Stinging Fly, who edited the collection.
“Putting together this anthology has been a great opportunity to discover and revisit some of the wonderful writing that’s been produced about the city as it’s been changing and growing throughout the time I’ve been here. It’s also been lovely to reflect on how much the city in all its many guises means to me.”
Dublin, Written in Our Hearts will be available from 11 March.
