Maritime Management, a leading Irish international maritime services company, has been awarded ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation by Germanischer Lloyd, the international accreditation body.
To receive these prestigious accreditations Maritime Management had to demonstrate its commitment to providing high-quality, environmentally friendly services and safety management systems to both international and Irish ship owners and operators in a highly competitive global market.
Maritime Management was established in 2002 by Norwegian Jan Berg on completion of his MBA in UCD’s Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. Maritime Management, one of NovaUCD’s earliest client companies, graduated from UCD’s Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre in 2007 and is now based in Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
On receiving the accreditations, Jan Berg, MD, Maritime Management said, “These awards show our dedication to delivering high-quality ship management services, beyond the strict compliance required in this highly regulated industry.” He added, “Achieving ISO 14001 accreditation, an internationally recognised green standard, shows our respect of the sensitive marine environment and has been well received by our international and Irish clients. It is of particular significance to our clients involved in underwater exploration and scientific research and those involved in the transport of agricultural produce.”
E/V Nautilus
Since 2002 Maritime Management’s business has grown steadily and it is now a significant international maritime service provider. Maritime Management has a diverse range of international clients and operates a variety of vessels, including specialist passenger ships, cargo ships and refrigerated cargo ships.
Maritime Management also operates specialist vessels including the E/V NAUTILUS on behalf of the famous undersea explorer Dr Robert Ballard who is best known for the discovery of the Titanic, PT 109 and the Bismark.
Over the last two years Maritime Management has transformed this vessel under tight budget and deadlines to enable it to conduct programmes for the TV channels National Geographic and CBS. In 2010 E/V NAUTILUS achieved the ground breaking ability to broadcast live high-definition video from the bottom of the Ocean which enabled global science teams to interact in real time with underwater operations.
Maritime Management is also currently designing and constructing a small high-tech survey vessel for the Geological Survey of Ireland.
“The ISO 9001 certification is considered a prerequisite in specialist vessel and offshore operations,” explains John Toner, Technical Director, Maritime Management. “Achieving these awards will reflect very well on the vessels owned by our clients and managed by Maritime Management and will reinforce our position as the leading Irish service provider for the national and international marine sector.”

ISO 14001 the international green standard ensures that organisations minimise how their operations negatively affect the environment (i.e. cause adverse changes to air, water, or land) and to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements, and how to continually improve in the above.
