Creation of the Zoetis-UCD2 Transatlantic One Health Alliance
In 2014 an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between UCD and UC Davis. It's aim was to develop education, research, innovation and cultural links between the two institutions. More recently, this partnership has been significantly strengthened through the support of Zoetis, the world's largest animal health company. Zoetis has been a significant supporter of research and education activities at both UC Davis and UCD, and through this support an opportunity presented itself for the creation of a UC Dublin-UC Davis (UCD2) Transatlantic One Health Alliance.
The aim is to create a world-leading One Health Alliance delivering innovative, outstanding research and training to address global needs and challenges. This will be achieved through collaborative One Health research, training and education to deliver disruptive and innovative solutions and provide the science-base to underpin policy formulations.
On November 2nd, 2018 the UCD2 Transatlantic One Health Alliance was launced at a workshop held at UC Davis, California. The meeting sought to identify common research themes and potential collaborations across UC Dublin and UC Davis One Health research. Since then one round of collaborative projects have been completed and a second is underway, with completion expected in December 2022. Funding for a third round of collaborative projects has been provided by Zoetis, with a call for proposals due to be released in October 2022.
