The orchestra offers up to twenty scholarships each year to student members based on audition. The current value of a scholarship is €500 in the first year, rising to €1000 following successful reaudition each subsequent year. There are no specific additional duties associated with the award, but scholars are expected to be leaders within the group and engage in occasional voluntary activities, such as attendance at open days and other public events.
Scholarships are awarded following orchestra auditions that take place each September. Current students can apply at any time. Prospective students can apply at any point in the previous academic year; if they are successful in securing a place at UCD, they will be offered an audition date for the upcoming September. To apply, please fill out the orchestra (opens in a new window)application form as normal, indicating on that form that you wish to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to the best applicants regardless of instrument, programme or degree stage.
