The UCD School Of Philosophy is delighted to announce that the Agnes Cuming speaker for 2011-12 will be Christine M Korsgaard, Arthur Kingsley Porter Professor of Philosophy, Harvard University. Professor Korsgaard will give two public lectures and one seminar in March 2012. The lecture series will be entitled "Good and Good-For-Someone."

Christine Korsgaard is Arthur Kingsley Porter Professor of Philosophy at Harvard University, where she has taught since 1991. Professor Korsgaard took her B.A. degree at the University of Illinois, and her PhD at Harvard, under the supervision of John Rawls. Prior to her appointment at Harvard, she held positions at University of California at Santa Barbara (1980-83), and the University of Chicago (1983-1991). Professor Korsgaard is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (elected 2001), and a recipient of the Mellon Distinguished Achievement Award (awarded 2004). In 2004 she received an honorary doctorate (Doctor of Humane Letters) at the University of Illinois.
Professor Korsgaard's most recent book is Self-Constitution: Agency, Identity, and Integrity (Oxford University Press, 2009), which is based on the John Locke Lectures that she gave at the University of Oxford in 2002. Her other major publications include The Sources of Normativity (Cambridge University Press, 1996), and two collections of previously published papers, The Constitution of Agency (Oxford University Press, 2008), and Creating the Kingdom of Ends (Cambridge University Press, 1996). We are honoured that Professor Korsgaard will be coming to UCD School of Philosophy in the Spring.
