BSc Sport, Health & Exercise Science Work Placement Programme
UCD is committed to the acquisition and sharing of knowledge for the benefit of the wider community. In this mission, the university collaborates with a growing number of external organisations through mutually beneficial initiatives. One of the key areas of this collaboration is providing professional work placement opportunities for undergraduate students in external companies and organisations.
At UCD, we recognise that academia and the professional world offer complementary opportunities for learning and personal development. This is particularly true for students in the BSc Sport, Health & Exercise Science programme, where practical experience is essential for a smooth transition from university to the workplace. The work placement component is an integral part of the BSc in Sport, Health & Exercise Science course and students complete 140 hours of placement either full-time during the summer between Stage 2 and Stage 3, or part-time between September and April of Stage 3. Students can apply for a range of pre-arranged placement opportunities, both locally and internationally, or organise their own placements. These may include placements with sports teams, gyms, schools, and more.
The work placement programme empowers students to take greater responsibility for planning and evaluating their own learning. It also enhances their career prospects and helps them refine their career path. This hands-on experience allows students to apply academic knowledge in real-world settings, while also developing valuable professional and business skills.
