Youth Mental Health Laboratory
The Youth Mental Health lab (YMH lab) was established in 2013 by Professor Barbara Dooley, Professor Eilis Hennessy and Assistant Professor Amanda Fitzgerald to promote research in youth mental health and to translate research findings into having a positive impact on the lives of young people. The lab comprises faculty and graduate students engaged on research relating to youth mental health. Our research has received funding from the Health Research Board, Irish Research Council, One Foundation, Royal Irish Academy, the Association of Teachers' Education Centres in Ireland, Healthy Ireland and the European Union. Our studies explore topics such as understanding risk and resilience factors related to mental health, stigma and mental health, and developing technologies to promote positive mental health.
- Our mission is to build critical mass in research in youth mental health, specifically the areas of risk and resilience in adolescent mental health, stigma and use of technology to promote positive mental health.
- Our YMH lab aims to be a forum for discussion for our researchers and graduate students, with the aim of promoting excellence in youth mental health.
- Our lab aims to have translational value so as to have an impact on the lives of young people.
- We aim to establish a young person’s forum - where young people can talk to us about the mental health issues that are important to them.
- We aim to establish a community of people interested in youth mental health to facilitate collaboration between our lab and school and community organizations.
- We also aim to use our research and evidence to influence policy at a national level.
