2018 Entrance Essay Award winner announced

On 27th November the Quinn School of Business awarded Yash Goenka, Stage 1 Economics and Finance student, the inaugural 2018 Quinn School of Business Entrance Essay Award.

The Entrance Essay award, launched in 2018, is a new competition for international students, intending to pursue their undergraduate studies in Quinn School of Business. The competition is open to students applying to enter any of the Quinn School of Business full-time undergraduate programmes i.e. Bachelor of Commmerce; BSc Economics & Finance; Bachelor of Commerce(International) or Bachelor of Business & Law. The award comprises a bursary of €2,000 and a Certificate of Achievement.

For the 2018 competition, applicants were asked to submit an essay (max. 1000 words) discussing the topic "How would Indian organisations benefit from conducting more business with Ireland and how could trade relations between the two countries be further improved?". The judges were particularly impressed with Yash’s entry and commented on the extremely high submission standard providing scholarly evidence of critical analysis and thinking. Head of the judging panel Assistant Professor Mattias Glowatz, said “Yash researched the topic thoroughly and included relevant references from selected research articles.

Speaking at a lunch to celebrate the award, Dr Maeve Houlihan, Director, UCD Lochlann Quinn School of Business, said “I'd like to congratulate Yash on his winning entrance essay and welcome him to Quinn as we together develop a global mindset and build our multicultural imagination for a changing world.

Yash, who will soon complete his first semester of studies at the Quinn School of Business is delighted to receive Entrance Essay Award “I still remember the day I received the email saying that I had secured the first position in the competition. Moving to Ireland all by myself to study Economics and Finance at UCD was scary at first, but the UCD family and my course mates have been the most welcoming people and the transition couldn’t be any easier. Even though Ec & Fi is a demanding course, it is one that I am thoroughly enjoying and it is a building block to my future ambitions.”
