Professor Brian Fynes awarded prestigious EurOMA Fellowship Award
Dr Brian Fynes, Professor of Supply Chain Management at the UCD College of Business, is to be awarded the prestigious European Operations Management Association (EurOMA) Fellowship Award in recognition of his significant contribution and impact in the field of operations management over an accomplished career. The Fellowship Awards have been running since 2009, with seventeen highly distinguished Fellows having been honoured to date.
Professor Fynes is one of the leading operations management / supply chain management scholars globally. His extensive publication record encompasses contributions to leading academic journals including Management Science, Production and Operations Management, the International Journal of Operations & Production Management and the European Journal of Operational Research. According to Babbar et al., (2018) Professor Fynes is ranked in the top 50 operations and supply chain management scholars globally. Professor Fynes has single-mindedly contributed to the development of OM/SCM as a research area in Europe, extensively contributing to EurOMA over many years. He was also elected as the first European-based president of the Global Manufacturing Research Group (GMRG) in 2013. He has received six Emerald Literati Awards for his published work in addition to Outstanding Reviewer Awards.
He is a Senior Consulting Editor at the International Journal of Operations & Production Management and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Quality Management Journal.
Beginning his illustrious career as an EU Marie Curie Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Operations Management at London Business School under the mentorship of his advisor, Professor Chris Voss. Brian has been a faculty member of the College of Business at UCD since 1990 where he was appointed as Ireland’s first Full Professor of Supply Chain Management in 2007. He has been the recipient of numerous significant research funding awards in conjunction with academic and corporate partners and led the creation of the MSc programmes in the areas of Supply Chain Management and Technology Management. Professor Fynes has also held multiple leadership positions in the College of Business and wider university, most recently including Chair of the Management Subject Area and Associate Dean (International). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport.
Professor Fynes will receive the Fellowship award during a ceremony held as part of the virtual 2020 EurOMA Annual Conference at Warwick Business School. Established in 1993, EurOMA is an international network of over 800 academics and practitioners from around the world who have a common interest in the continuing development of the operations management field. The European-based network bridges the gap between research and practice and allows members to share their ideas, knowledge, and experience.
