Success for Quinn Students at National Competitions
A team of our Tax in Society students (Elizabeth Denton, Adam Waldron, Aisling Byrne and Jessica Horgan) all from the final year Bachelor of Commerce, partook in the KPMG Tax Factor Competition recently and were awarded first place. Teams were given an exciting current tax business problem and had the opportunity to present their findings to a panel of KPMG Tax experts.
Elsehwhere a team of three of our Tax in Society students were awarded First Place in the Matheson Vision 2020 University Challenge. Each team was required to address the following question: 'In a post-Brexit economy, what is the one legal reform you would implement to encourage business growth by 2020 in Ireland?'.
Our UCD team, comprising Tara English, Eimear O'Leary and Rachael Toland Deburca presented a tax relief which they labelled a Business Growth Relief and produced a video to explain how the relief would be implemented, along with the conditions to be satisfied for companies to claim the relief. The Business Growth Relief is designed to motivate businesses to establish, grow, and remain in Ireland and to create a strong and resilient economy able to withstand the Brexit storm.
