UCD College of Business announced the launch of a new Memorandum of Agreement with Showa Women’s University in Japan. The new collaboration highlights the College’s international growth priority and emphasis on building diversity in both its undergraduate and graduate programmes, most notably in relation to female participation.
Situated in Tokyo, Japan’s capital as well as its political, economic and cultural centre, Showa Women’s University is one of the country’s top academic institutions for women, according to the university’s website. The university is committed to empowering women to succeed in an increasingly diverse and complex world and has earned high accolades for their globally oriented educational programs, which include those at their campus in Boston, U.S.A.
This innovative collaboration will see opportunities for students from Showa Women’s University travel to complete undergraduate Study Abroad programmes in the UCD Lochlann Quinn School of Business and pathway programme opportunities to graduate programmes in the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business.
In March 2023, Vice Principal for Internationalization and Global Engagement Professor Don Bredin and UCD Smurfit School Admissions Manager Carole Deering travelled to Japan to strengthen and enhance the College's partnerships, recruitment and research activities with key Japanese partners including 早稲田大学 WASEDA University, Meiji University, International Christian University, The University of Tokyo and Seijo University.
In addition, a key objective of the visit was to participate in the ceremonial signing of a Study Abroad and Pre-Masters Pathway Agreement for the UCD College of Business and Showa Women's University by UCD's Vice-President for Global Engagement Professor Dolores O'Riordan.
“This partnership supports our strategic focus on embracing the world and compliments existing initiatives to increase female participation within the student cohort,” said Professor Don Bredin, Vice Principal of Internationalisation for UCD College of Business.
UCD leadership also met with Ireland's Ambassador to Japan Damien Cole, as well as senior officials from Enterprise Ireland, to promote the College's internationalisation strategy and to identify future collaboration opportunities with Japanese partners.
