Bachelor of Commerce International

Your Career, Your Future

BCIT graduates find structured employment in the private, public and not-for-profit (NGO) sectors, or set up their own companies. Many different career paths are available, and students who can combine an international language with a business qualification are highly employable graduates for multinational companies. In addition, the focus on multicultural competencies gives BCIT graduates a unique competitive advantage in the global marketplace.

In the final year students can choose to focus on their particular business discipline(s) of interest (e.g. Accountancy, Management, Marketing, Finance, Management Information Systems or Human Resource Management) and direct their own career path.

Language Skills

Recent studies, such as the CPL Employment monitor, have stated the language skills are some of the most in-demand skills required for employers. As a Commerce International student you can become an attractive graduate for international employers based in Ireland, or employers with international operations. Many of our graduates have taken their love for international business into travelling the world, using their linguistic skills and cultural understanding to help open up doors worldwide.

Internships

BCIT Students have the option to complete a summer internship for academic credit. The 5 credit business summer internship module allows students to gain credit for professional workplace experience. The aim of the module is to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on and develop their personal and professional skills and gain an understanding of how theory presented in modules translates into practice. Students have the option to complete their summer internship in Ireland or in their host country after their year abroad. Completing an internship not only allows students to develop their professional & personal skills but also helps to inform their career decision making and enhance their employability.

Alumni Insight

Victoria O'Gorman, Finance at Deloitte

BComm International has been a wonderful course, offering me both the academic excellence of the Quinn School and the diversity of studying a language. I have also had the opportunity to partake in various activities such as representing the Quinn School in a case study competition in Washington DC. My Erasmus year in Madrid was an amazing experience. I improved my language skills immensely and also developed as a person, learning how to cope in a different cultural environment. I think the combination of business, language and the academic year abroad, that this course offers, is something employers really value in an era of globalisation.

Lyndsey Baker, Policy Advisor, Government Digital Service UK

During my year long exchange in China, I studied in both Beijing and Shanghai, for one semester each. In this way, I got to experience life in both the cultural and financial capitals of China. I loved meeting people from all over the world and got to do a lot of travelling while I was there. I find having studied Chinese is a great differentiator in interviews and has already helped me to avail of many opportunities. Having studied in Quinn, I feel well prepared for entering the business world both from an academic and practical skills point of view. You have a lot of exposure to relevant extra-curricular activities and the focus on group work within many of the courses strengthens valuable skills necessary for employment.
