What will I study?
Students on the BCIT programme study a core set of business modules covering quantitative skills such as Economics and Finance, Accounting, Maths and Data Analysis. Students also develop their understanding of the softer skills required in the business world by studying how organisations work, how business works in society and the effects of culture on business practices. These modules are delivered by lecturers who are active in the research and practice of specific business subject areas.
The language modules cover linguistics, literature and culture equipping students with the critical analysis skills vital to any career. On applying, you will select two languages to study, choosing from Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish. With the exception of French, you will have the opportunity to study these languages from beginner level.
At the end of the first trimester, students choose one of the two options to pursue as their language minor for the remainder of the course. While the European language options include a focus on literature and culture, the Chinese language option encompasses culture, politics, law and society.
Throughout the duration of the course, you will receive a firm foundation in core and specialist business disciplines, as well as developing your language proficiency to degree minor level.
In year 4 students can select specialist options from business subject areas such as Accountancy, Management, Marketing, Finance, Management Information Systems or Human Resource Management.

The academic year abroad is an integral part of the BCIT Degree, studying business and language. In addition to attending classes in one or our partner universities, you will follow UCD online modules specifically designed to enhance your experiences while abroad.
You will return to UCD for your final year, after what we hope is a great personal experience. We find that students are more independent and self-confident, having developed a great set of inter-cultural communication skills.
Studying abroad is a wonderful opportunity for you to develop linguistic skills and enhance your understanding of the international business environment. It improves employment opportunities and is a great way to meet new friends and experience different cultures and languages.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Commerce (International) programme is to develop commercially astute graduates with a sophisticated degree of intercultural competence that will make a significant contribution to business and broader society in a global context. We aspire to produce graduates that, over the long-term, will assume leadership positions in organisations on the international stage and will have a significant impact on the development of business, economic, and social life, nationally and internationally (Purpose). We aim to foster critical thinking and to develop intellectual acumen through the development of linguistic proficiency and through the exploration of the cultural, business and social traditions of other countries. Graduates will demonstrate critical awareness of business trends, issues, and developments; be fully equipped to lead and manage in a multicultural environment; be creative problem-solvers and have an analytical approach to decision-making; have a deep-rooted ethical and societal awareness with an understanding of, and respect for, cultural diversity; demonstrate a multilingual capacity to communicate persuasively and professionally; and have a life-long commitment to personal and professional excellence and development (education and subject/discipline/professional values). The Bachelor of Commerce (International) curriculum is designed to develop future leaders through a range of transformative educational experiences and pedagogical innovations from both business and the arts, designed to foster the student’s own development of autonomous learning strategies, independent thought and intellectual curiosity. Students also spend an academic year with an international partner university, so are immersed in the culture and language of the host country (the nature of the learning environment for students). The programme emphasises a mix of teaching and assessment methods including business case studies, interactive language classes, tutorials and the use of the virtual learning environment. Students are exposed to faculty, national and international, with a range of different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds (key approaches to teaching, learning and assessment).
