The role of environmental protection in EU competition law and policy
Principal Investigator: Suzanne Kingston
Project Outline: One of the fundamental challenges facing the EU at present is that of reconciling its economic and environmental policies. The project constitutes an in-depth study of the role of environmental protection considerations in one of the EU’s core economic competences, EU competition law and policy. The project adopts a fundamentally interdisciplinary approach, drawing on legal, governance and economic theory before undertaking a comprehensive analysis of present decisional practice in this area. The argument will be put forward that competition enforcers are failing at present to give sufficient weight to environmental factors in applying EU competition law.
