Am I eligible?
If you have obtained, or expect to obtain, a completed, relevant level 6 HIgher Certificate/level 7 Ordinary Bachelor award from an Irish Technological University (TU) or Institute of Technology (IT) with an overall classification of Merit or Distinction, you may be considered for progression to stage 2 of the Agricultural Science, Food Science and Human Nutrition programmes, subject to availability of places.
You must have passed third level examinations with Merit or Distinction in all the following subjects or their equivalents:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Experimental Physics
To be eligible for consideration, applicants to all (opens in a new window)Agricultural Science programme options must have passed sufficient modules relevant to the new programme they are seeking to enter.
Applicants to the (opens in a new window)Human Nutrition programme must have passed sufficient relevant human nutrition subjects to be considered.
How will I be assessed?
If there are more applicants than places, admission will be competitive based on your academic performance in your Higher Certificate and/or Ordinary Bachelor degree.
How do I apply?
Apply using the link beside the relevant course code on the Indicative Places page.
After the closing date, all complete submitted applications will be screened by Admissions. Applications which meet the minimum requirements (as outlined above in the "Am I Eligible?" section) will be sent to the College/School Offices for consideration by the relevant Programme Board. Incomplete applications or applications that do not meet the minimum requirements cannot be considered.
Application Dates
Subject to availability of places, applications will open from mid-April to Mid-June 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered - your application, including application fee and supporting documentation, must be submitted by the closing date.
Internal and readmission applicants do not need to provide their UCD examination results, because these can be accessed by Admissions internally.
Subject to availability of places after initial offers, late applications may open in August. Please note that registration typically starts from mid-August so any successful late applicants are likely to be late joining registration processes and consequently, module availability may be reduced.
If you are considering applying for a transfer, please check the fees implications at www.ucd.ie/fees.
Some programmes will not normally consider applicants who have been unsuccessful in a similar programme - full details are on the restrictions page.
All offers of a place are subject toUCD's Terms and Conditions of Offer. In line with the(opens in a new window)Admissions Policy, offers for taught programmes will not be made after the third week of a trimester. Deferral or Leave of Absence is not permissible for the trimester following acceptance of a transfer/re-admission offer.
In some cases, students may wish to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning in addition to that granted by the transfer process (see Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy).
All students must comply with the regulations of the University.
The above is summary information only. Full regulations are included in the (opens in a new window)Transfer Policy.
