An open web server for analysing proteins
Bioware is one of the leading sources of computational analysis of peptides and protein motifs. It is hosted by the Shields' Lab, UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research and the UCD Centre for Bioinformatics.
The clinical bioinformatics lab is led by Prof Denis Shields, UCD School of Medicine. His research group focuses on identifying functional regions of proteins and genes that impact on disease risk and therapy.
The lab studies functional short fragments of proteins, called termed peptides. In proteins, short linear motifs are found. These are short stretches of protein sequence that effect protein–protein interaction. Prof. Shields and his group advance computational methods to study these motifs.
These methods are openly shared with the scientific community via the Bioware web server.
The Bioware server contains several tools for short linear motif discovery and peptide characterisation and related analysis of proteomics data. These tools are available to use by all.
