Based in UCD College of Social Sciences and Law, the Connected_Politics Lab is an interdisciplinary hub for researchers using computational methods to study politics and society.

Open Science 

The Connect_Politics Lab has compiled, and hosts, a number of English-language document repositories relating to European Union politics. This includes two large corpora, openly available for use.

Led by Associate Professor James Cross, UCD School of Politics and International Relations, and Dr Derek Greene, UCD School of Computer Science, these are valuable, open data corpora for that benefits the wider research community.

About the Lab

The European Parliament Corpus 1999-2014 includes 210,247 English language speeches covering all English language legislative speeches in the European Parliament plenary from the period 1999-2014. The Governing Council of the European Central Bank Corpus 1999-2018 covers all English language speeches made by members of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank from the period 1999-2016 that could be found on the websites of the European Central Bank and the Euro area central banks.

The Connected politics website also hosts a blog providing data analysis and insights into political events in Ireland and abroad. People can engage with the Lab through their workshops and seminars.
