UCD led the first ‘Ireland Day’ as part of the Science Summit at the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York in 2023. The event brought international experts together at the Irish Permanent Mission to the UN to discuss the important role of research and collaboration in attaining the UN SDGs and to examine how Ireland is contributing to these global objectives. Participants shared insights on areas such as Sustainable and Equitable Food Systems and Deliberative Democracies, in which Ireland and UCD have demonstrated outstanding initiative and leadership, and laid the foundations for future international collaborations.
Universities are unique environments and play a pivotal role in societal change. If UCD were a town or city, it would be the 9th largest in Ireland. Through careful consideration of campus energy and water usage, waste-management, sustainable-commuting and biodiversity; fostering of environmental awareness through initiatives such as the Green-Campus Programme; and pioneering diverse projects like the UCD Bike Library, UCD Sustainable Action Collaborative Mapping and Geonorm, we are embedding the principles of a sustainable society in our community and leading by example.
