Presentation Abstract

Title: Empowering postdocs adaptable research careers with Prosper

(opens in a new window)Prosperis an innovative approach to postdoc career development that seeks to unlock postdocs’ potential to thrive across multiple career pathways – within and beyond academia. By gently challenging the sometimes-pervasive expectation that all postdocs aspire to a career within academia, we have created a career-outcome-impartial approach.

Prosper empowers postdocs to drive their own career development to realise the wide range of career possibilities open to them. Prosper is tried and tested. Our pilot participants recorded a marked improvement in their confidence around their ability to plan and move their careers forward, whether that be seeking a specific development opportunity whilst in-role or pursuing a new role. Prosper provides the framework to which each postdoc brings their unique specificity.

In this talk I’ll present a brief overview of Prosper, the impact it’s had on postdocs and the sector and touch on the longitudinal impact on a group of pilot postdocs careers.

By the end of the talk attendees will be able to:

  • Recognise what Prosper offers
  • Appreciate the benefits of a broad, integrated approach to postdoc career development
  • Discover the impact Prosper has had on postdocs and consider how they may wish to implement it
