Erasmus Exchanges for Stage 4 students
SBBS operates three subject-specific Erasmus exchange schemes for Stage 4 students, providing the opportunity to complete their research project in another university. This will allow you to experience another culture for an extended period, to encounter a different university system and to carry out your project in a stimulating research environment. As agreed by the Erasmus scheme, you do not pay any any tuition fees to the host university but instead you continue to register with UCD and pay your normal registration fee. A small grant is also made available to qualifying students.
The application deadline for both exchange programmes is in January for the following September.
An information meeting is held in the Autumn trimester by the academic coordinator Dr Jana Haase prior to the application deadline and all Stage 3 students will be informed of the date of this meeting by email. For further information on either of these exchanges contact the School’s Erasmus programme administrator, Heather Wood (opens in a new window)heather.wood@ucd.ie
Copenhagen exchange programme
The Copenhagen exchange programme is run in conjunction with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PHARMA),(opens in a new window) University of Copenhagen. It is available to Stage 4 SBBS students whose project interests and academic suitability are aligned with what is on offer.
All aspects of this programme are delivered in English. Students will register for a research project (25 credits) which they will complete during trimester 1 (Autumn). Students will return to UCD for trimester 2 for completion of the remaining 35 credits of their degree programme. The additional trimester 2 module that will be required of Erasmus students may be discussed with the student’s Head of Subject.
University of Göttingen, Germany
This exchange programme is run in conjunction with the Faculty of Biology and Psychology, Georg-August-University Göttingen. It is available for the Autumn trimester (largely parallel to dates of UCD semesters) of Stage 4 to SBBS students depending on project interests and subject to academic suitability. All aspects of this programme are delivered in English. Students will be asked to identify research areas/groups within the Faculty of Biology and Psychology and associated research Institutes in Göttingen.
