Teaching Support Information for Graduate Research Students

All graduate research students are encouraged to demonstrate in undergraduate laboratory classes where allowed by their funding agency.  Demonstrating hours will be allocated at the beginning of the Autumn and Spring trimesters. A limited number of tutoring hours may also be available.

Eligibility:  All graduate research students in the school are eligible unless disallowed by their funding agency.  All eligible graduate students will receive an email within a trimester of their start date, outlining their assigned hours.

Training Requirement:  Students are required to take BMOL40080 - Teaching in Higher Education in the first year of their studies.

Hours:  Demonstrating hours are spread as evenly as possible across the graduate student population, but can vary depending on the area of expertise or experience required.  The maximum number of hours is 150 per year.

Payment rates:  Demonstrators and tutors will be paid at the standard university hourly paid rates for Senior Postgraduate Demonstrator, Postgraduate Demonstrator and Tutor. Note: Submission of timesheets is required after completion of the work using the COREHR Hourly Paid system.
