International Men’s Day
19 November 2022 International Men's Day
International Men's Day is a global holiday that is annually celebrated on 19 November to recognise and celebrate the positive value that men bring to the world, to their families and their communities. It often focuses on presenting positive role models and raising awareness around men's well-being. In celebration of International Men’s Day, a number of EDI initiatives were held across the University, open to all men and men’s allies.
The EDI unit organised a series of sessions for International Men's Day, including a Men's Health Webinar, a Share & Support session with the aid of Support Colleagues at Mental Health & Wellbeing and a virtual Yoga session. The School of Computer Science hosted a Table Quiz on Thursday 17 November at the University Club Café. Additionally, Everywoman Tech Hub organised the webinar Male Managers as Allies in collaboration with Capgemini (speaker Scott Turton), Discover Financial Services (speaker Mark Edwards) and Kainos Group plc. (speaker Russell Sloan). The webinar explored the idea of conscious leadership and the future of male allyship in the tech universe.
Lastly, the College of Science encouraged men at the university to take part in the “Movember” challenge, aimed at raising funds for men’s health by growing a beard throughout November and sharing the photo on social media.
