The Science Phase III project has seen major developments since the main contractor, BAM Ireland, took possession of the site in early October 2023, and quickly moved to wrap the Science North and West buildings in white protective material. Within a few days, the sounds of diggers, hammers and power tools were ringing out across the campus.
In places details of the basic concrete frame of the buildings can be seen, exposed by the work. Retaining this original frame saves approximately 2,700 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Most dramatically, in January 2024, the bridge linking the Science Hub to the West building was removed. Over the next two years, we can look forward to the construction of new built elements, as the West building is enlarged and linked to both the North and South buildings. The O’Brien Centre for Science will then occupy over 66,000 square meters, with capacity for 7,500 students and the staff to support and educate them.
