In my PhD research project, I have explored processes of inter-semiotic translation in contemporary Portuguese literature, such as from novel to the medium of graphic novels. I focused on ekphrasis as a theoretical tool. I have had a strong interest in Portuguese concrete and visual poetry and 1990's Portuguese graphic novel, since it is the most creative and innovative publishing decade.  My current interests centre in how digital technology shapes, transformes and reconfigures Portuguese literary ficcional narratives. I combine readings on narratology and literature that addressed issues of interactive fiction and hyper-fiction.  By extension, I become interested in the notion of ergodic literature and non linearity in literature. I am particularly engaged by the work of scholars such as Espen J. Aarseth who coined the term. At the same time, I am also interested in how globalisation and internet technologies are changing the way we think, learn and teach.
