Content
On July 1, 2018, Austria took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the third time. This workshop will explore the significance of the Viennese Congress (1814-15), the disintegration of the Austrian Empire in 1918, the Second Austrian Republic and Austria's membership in the EU.

Invited speakers include the Ambassador of Austria to the Republic of Ireland Dr. Freudenschuss, Ass.-Prof. in German Studies Dr. Ruthner (Trinity College Dublin), Emeritus Lecturer in German Studies Dr. Herzmann (UCD), Austrian Lecturer Anneliese Rieger, MA and Austrian Lecturer Lisa Winter, MA.
Participants
The workshop is aimed at students of all levels and subjects with a keen interest in International Relations, in particular with regard to Austrian foreign policy.

22nd November
09:00-13:00, 14:30-18:30 Austrian Foreign Affairs in the 19th century until the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy after World War I.
23rd November
09:00-12:30 The troublesome re-defining process of Austrian identity in the first half of the 20th century, Austrian Foreign Affairs as a neutral state in the second half of the 20th century, Bruno Kreisky as the “architect of the modern Republic of Austria”
14:00-17:30 Austrian Foreign Affairs as an EU member state since 1995 until today; future perspectives and challenges
18:00-19:00 Talk with the Austrian Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Dr Helmut Freudenschuss followed by food and drink reception

We also welcome participants to attend part of the workshop if you are unable to attend the whole event. You will still be eligible to win a trip to Vienna.
