On Wednesday November 24^th, 2021 (opens in a new window)Asst. Prof. Mary McAuliffe was part of a Department of Justice sponsored Decade of Centenaries panel on  ‘Forbidden Love: Same-sex relationships in early 20th century Ireland’. Dr. Patrick McDonagh, PhD., Modern Irish History, facilitated a discussion with Dr Mary McAuliffe and Dr. Averill Earls, historian, writer and Assistant Professor at Mercyhurst University, Pennslyvania.  Dr. Earls’ research on the policing of male same-sex desire and Dr McAuliffe’s research on same-sex female revolutionaries made for an engaging and thoughtful discussion on the challenges of criminalisation and invisibilisation faced by queer men and women during this period in Irish history.
